No. The free editor is fully capable — text sizes, bold, italic, underline, strikethrough, lists, indent, blockquote, and alignment are all free. So are six fonts: Sans, Garamond, Playfair, Cormorant, Lora and Typewriter. GS Pro adds the extra flourishes (30 more fonts, drop caps, color/highlight, emoji, smart typography) on top.

With GS Pro on, the editor quietly tidies typography as you type: straight quotes become curly quotes, a double hyphen (--) becomes an em dash, and three dots (...) become a single ellipsis. It changes how punctuation looks, never your words.

Yes — every poem, however it's formatted, has a 50,000-character limit. The counter beneath the editor turns red if you go over.
