Text Editor Pro is the upgraded composer toolbar that comes with GS Pro. Everyone can write and format a poem — the tools on this page are the extra ones Pro members get. Free writers keep a full, capable editor (text sizes, bold/italic/underline, lists, indent, blockquote, alignment); Pro simply adds the finishing touches below. Readers never need Pro to see any of it — your formatting shows for everyone.
Overview
Text Editor Pro lives right in the poem composer (Compose a Poem) and the poem editor — there’s nothing separate to open. When your GS Pro membership is active, the extra controls appear in the toolbar above the writing area automatically. This guide walks through each one.
Curated poetry fonts
Instead of a generic serif/sans list, Pro gives you a hand-picked set of typefaces chosen to suit poetry — Garamond, Playfair, Cormorant, Lora, and a Typewriter face — alongside the default. Pick a font from the toolbar and apply it to a selection or the whole piece. The font travels with your poem, so readers see it the way you set it.
Color and highlight
Two toolbar pickers let you set text color and a highlight (background) color on any selection — useful for a single emphasized line or a subtle accent. Use them sparingly and they carry real weight.
Drop caps
The Drop Cap button turns the first letter of a paragraph into a large, decorative initial that the rest of the lines wrap around — the classic opening flourish of a printed poem. Place your cursor in the paragraph and toggle it on.
Smart auto-formatting
With Pro on, the editor quietly tidies your typography as you type:
- Straight quotes become curly “typographer’s” quotes.
- A double hyphen
--becomes a proper em dash —. - Three dots
...become a single ellipsis ….
Pro also leaves your browser’s spell-check on in the writing area so typos are easier to catch. None of this changes your words — only how the punctuation is rendered.
Emoji, links, and images
The Pro toolbar adds an emoji picker (insert at the cursor from a grouped popover), plus link and image insertion for when a poem calls for them.
Tagging other poets with @mentions works in the composer for everyone, free or Pro — it isn’t a Pro-only tool. And every poem, however you format it, has the same 50,000-character limit; the counter under the editor turns red if you go over.
