Voice Readings with SoulCast
Record your poem in your own voice and attach it to the poem page so readers can hear it — a GS Pro feature.
Yes, but only with a GS Pro membership. Open the composer, scroll to the SoulCast Studio panel, click the round record button, read your poem out loud, click the square stop button, click Next, listen to your takes, and choose Use Take to attach one. No, listening is never paywalled. Anyone visiting your poem page, signed in or not, free or GS Pro, can play it. The player sits just above the poem: it shows SoulCast by your username, the shape of your voice as a waveform listeners can click or drag to move around in, the time, and a speed button (1x, 1.25x, 0.75x). Open the poem, click the pencil (Edit Poem), scroll to SoulCast Studio, and click Replace, then Record a New One to confirm. Record, click Next, and choose Use Take. The old reading is deleted for good only when you use a new take; if you discard your new takes instead, the old one stays. To delete a reading without recording a new one, click Remove. No. Each poem holds one reading. While recording you can keep up to three takes and pick the best one. To swap a saved reading later, click Replace.
It removes clicks and low rumble and evens out the volume of each take, right in your browser. It's on by default and remembered on that device. If you switch it off or on, the change applies to your next take, not the takes you already recorded.
Follow Along is added automatically shortly after you save a SoulCast. We match your reading to the lines of your poem, so the poem needs its words. If you replace the reading, Follow Along is made again for the new one. If it never shows up, record the reading again.
When a reading has Follow Along, each line of the poem lights up as the poet reads it, so listeners can read the words while they hear them. The page scrolls to keep the line being read in view, and clicking a line jumps the reading to it. Listeners can switch it off with the Follow along switch next to the player; their choice is remembered on that device.
A small player docks at the bottom of the screen so the reading keeps going. It shows the poem's title, the time, play/pause, and an X to stop. Tap the title to jump back to the full player. A reading stops when it ends; it doesn't loop.
Click Can't hear it? next to the player and choose the speaker or headphones you want the sound to come out of. If the reading won't play at all, refresh the page and try again.
Each take must come in under 15 MB, which is typically about 15 minutes of speech — comfortably long for the vast majority of poems. If you go over, record a shorter version, or split a very long piece across multiple poems. More on what you'll need →
Open your browser's site permissions for GS Poetry (usually a padlock icon in the address bar), switch microphone access back on, then reload the page and click the record button again. Your browser will re-prompt the first time and you can choose Allow. More troubleshooting →
The take captured silence end-to-end — usually because the wrong microphone was selected at the operating-system level, or because the mic was muted. Check your system audio settings, pick the right input, and record again. SoulCast shows this warning so you don't save a silent take by mistake: discard it and record again. More troubleshooting →
If the network drops between save and audio upload, you'll see "Poem saved, but your voice reading could not attach." For a Public or Followers Only poem, we take you straight to its edit page. Otherwise, open the poem from My Poems and click the pencil. Record again in the SoulCast Studio panel. This time it attaches directly. If the poem was only a voice reading, it stays a draft until the reading attaches. More troubleshooting →
They keep playing on your poems exactly as before — listeners notice no change. You just won't see the SoulCast Studio record button in the composer until you resubscribe.
Yes, with GS Pro. Record a SoulCast in the composer and you can publish without typing the words. Readers see "This poem is shared as a SoulCast. Press play to listen." While it's live you can't remove the recording on its own: add the words first, or move the poem back to drafts.
