Password & 2FA

Recover access, reset your password, set up two-factor, and verify sensitive changes.

13 Questions
In Settings → My Account → Security, enable 2FA using an authenticator app (a six-digit code generated by an app such as Google Authenticator) or text message (a code sent to a US or Canadian mobile number). Full walkthrough: Setting up two-factor authentication →
On the sign-in page, click "Forgot password?", enter your email, and enter the code we email you to set a new one. Full walkthrough: Reset your password →
Some changes are sensitive enough that we double-check it's really you before they run — we call these high-risk actions. The quick check (one code or your password) protects your account if someone ever gets onto it while you're still signed in. Full walkthrough: Verifying high-risk actions →
Anything that could lock you out, change your identity, or remove something permanently — changing your password, email, username, or birthday; pausing or closing your account; turning off or changing 2FA; signing out devices; exporting your data; and deleting a poem. See the full list →
No. If you have 2FA turned on, you'll enter a six-digit code; if you don't, you'll simply confirm your current password instead. Either way the change goes through — there's no shortcut that skips the check.
Each verification covers one action only — it's used up the moment that action completes. The next sensitive change asks for a fresh check, even if it's seconds later. This is what stops anyone from cascading through your settings in a single sitting.
You can enter one of your single-use backup codes at the verification step instead. If your authenticator app and your backup codes are both gone, follow the recovery guide rather than retrying. Help: Lost access to your two-factor authentication →
To protect against password guessing, GS Poetry temporarily locks your account after 5 failed sign-in attempts. The lock lasts 30 minutes and then lifts automatically — there's nothing to reset and no one to email. Full walkthrough: Why your account locked after failed sign-ins →
Five. After 5 failed attempts in a row your account is locked for 30 minutes, then unlocks on its own. More on how the lockout works →
The lock is time-based, so the simplest fix is to wait the full 30 minutes and try again; retrying sooner won't get you in any faster. If you keep failing because you've forgotten your password, reset it so your next attempt succeeds once the lock clears. Reset your password →
For your security, we show the same neutral message whether the email isn't registered or the password was wrong — so no one can use the sign-in form to find out whether a given email has an account. Once you hit the attempt limit, the message changes to tell you the account is temporarily locked. More →
Yes — a passkey lets you sign in with your device's fingerprint, face, or screen lock instead of typing a password, and there's nothing to remember or leak. Add and manage passkeys under Settings → Account → Set up a passkey.
You can request an archive of your account — your poems, profile, photos, comments, and messages — and download it as a file to keep. Download a copy of your data →
