Content Warnings

How the mature-content flag works, what signed-out readers see, and how to give a considerate heads-up on sensitive themes.

6 Questions
When you write or edit a poem, tick the checkbox labeled "This poem contains mature content not suitable for minors 13 years old and younger." It takes effect as soon as you publish or save. Full guide: Content warnings →
A signed-out visitor sees a brief Age Confirmation notice before the poem opens, asking them to confirm they're 13 or older. Signed-in members see the poem normally, since everyone confirms they meet the minimum age of 13 when they join. Nothing else about your poem changes.
No. The mature-content flag is about age-appropriateness, not hiding your work — it doesn't pull the poem from your profile or the streams, and it doesn't change who's allowed to read it. To actually limit who can see a poem, use its visibility setting instead.
There isn't a separate on-screen label for themes like violence, trauma, grief, or self-harm. The considerate thing is to say so in your own words — a short note at the top of the poem or in its Backstory lets a reader decide whether they're in the right frame of mind.
No. GS Poetry doesn't censor subjects or themes — poetry goes to hard places, and that's part of its work. What we ask is that you give readers a heads-up when a poem calls for one, using the mature-content flag or a brief content note. See the Community Guidelines for what's welcome here.
Yes. Open the poem, choose Edit, tick the mature-content box (or add a note to the top of the poem or its Backstory), and save. The change takes effect right away.
