Direct Messaging

Open the poet's profile and start a conversation from there. Your first message opens a private one-to-one thread. If they follow you or you follow each other, it goes straight to their Inbox; otherwise it waits in their Requests tab until they accept. Full guide: Direct messaging →

Messages from people you don't follow are held in a separate Requests inbox instead of your main Inbox, so unknown senders never crowd your conversations. Messages from poets you follow always skip Requests. On each request you can Accept, Decline, Block, or Mark as Spam. Accepting moves the thread into both inboxes so you can reply normally.

Declining hides the conversation from your view, and the sender is not notified. It's a quiet way to pass on a message without any confrontation. If you'd rather stop someone reaching you at all, use Block instead.

Go to Settings → Messaging → Message Permissions and choose Everyone, Followers Only, or Nobody. On the same page you can also turn Filter Message Requests on or off, set your notification mode, add quiet hours, and manage read receipts.

You can report any single message directly from the conversation using its report option, and pick a reason. You can also mark a whole request as spam — that moves it to your Archived tab with a "Spam" tag and quietly sends a report to our moderation team.

Choose Block from the message request menu, or block them from their profile. Blocking cuts the sender off from your profile, poems, and inbox, removes any mutual follow, and stops future messages. The sender is never notified. Full walkthrough: Block, mute, or report a user →

Your Requests tab is the main filter — anyone you don't follow has to be accepted before their messages reach your Inbox. When something is clearly spam, Mark as spam archives the thread with a red "Spam" tag and reports it to our team for review. Blocking is the hard stop for a sender you never want to hear from again.
