Interacting with the stream

How to post a status update, react to and save what you love, share or repost poems, and hide or mute anything you'd rather not see.

Overview

Your home stream is the running stream of what the poets you follow are doing on GS Poetry — new poems, status updates, photos, and milestones. It’s also somewhere you can add your own voice: post a quick update, react to work you love, pass a poem along, or gently tidy away anything you’d rather not see. This guide walks through each of those actions.

For a tour of what the stream shows and how it’s ordered, see Understanding the stream. This article is about the things you can do once you’re there.

Posting a status update

At the top of your home stream is a composer box that asks “What moves you today?” Type whatever’s on your mind — a thought, a line you’re working on, a note to the people who follow you — and click Post. Your update appears in your stream and in the streams of people who follow you. You can mention another poet with @ and their username as you type.

A status update doesn’t have to be words alone:

  • Add a photo. Click Photo to open the upload box, then drag in images or browse for them (JPG, PNG, or WEBP). You can pair a photo with a caption or post it on its own.
  • Add a video. Click Video and paste a YouTube link to embed it in your post. YouTube links are the supported option for now.

A status update is different from publishing a poem — it’s the lightweight, everyday way to stay in touch with your community. To publish an actual poem, use the poem composer instead.

Reacting & saving

Every post in your stream carries a row of actions along the bottom:

  • Like — a one-click way to show a post landed with you. Click again to remove it.
  • Comment — open the thread to leave a reply, and reply to other people’s comments in turn.
  • Save — from the post’s … (more) menu, choose Save Post to bookmark it for later. Saved posts are private to you; nobody is told you saved their work.

Sharing & reposting

When you want other people to see a poem, open the Share menu on the post. It gives you a few ways to pass it along:

  • Copy link — grab a direct link to the poem to paste anywhere.
  • Repost to your stream — share the poem into your own stream so the people who follow you see it too. Reposting is a toggle: click it again to undo, and a small “You reposted this” note marks posts you’ve shared.
  • Send via message — pass the poem privately to one or more poets through a direct message.
Note

Hiding, muting, and saving are all quiet by design. Removing a post from your stream, muting a poet, or saving something for later never sends the other person a notification — these controls are just for shaping your own stream.

Hiding & snoozing

Not everything needs to stay in front of you. Each post has a small × (dismiss) menu with options to clean up what you see:

  • Remove from my stream — hides that single post from your stream.
  • Mute for 30 days — snooze a poet’s posts out of your stream for a month without unfollowing them. It’s a gentle break, not a goodbye — they’re never told, and they come back on their own after 30 days.
  • Unfollow — stop following the poet so their new posts no longer reach your stream.
  • Block and Flag Content — for when something crosses a line rather than just cluttering your stream.

Mute and unfollow are about volume; block is the hard boundary. For the full difference — and what each one does to the other person’s access — see Block, mute, or report a user.
